Ever since the Etaples Shipping Co-operative and Producers Organisation (CME) was set up in 1958 by local shipowner-operators to unite the forces and resources of their fishing flotilla, our business has considerably developed and widely diversified. Supporting and promoting regional small-scale fishing, providing the flotilla with a global service, optimising the value added to fresh fish products - these are only some of the aims of our organisation, and this brochure is an invitation to share its values and viewpoint.

Each and every day, our highly experienced teams track and harbour the ships of the small-scale fishing flotilla, offloading the catch and generally supplying a wide range of services in order to provide shipowner-operators with the technical and financial advice and support they need.

Most of the skippers come from Etaples-sur-Mer, in the Bay of the Canche river on the Flemish coast of France. Etaples-sur-Mer is a name with waves and wind in it, gulls wheeling overhead and fish jumping in the nets. From Roman times down through the centuries, Etaples has always been a community renowned for the deeds of its fishermen. The CME small-scale Flotilla today, representing most of the shipowner-operators on the Opal Coast, offloads its catch in the Capécure harbour of Boulogne-sur-Mer, the largest fishing port in France and the leading centre in Europe for processing seafood. The quality of our catch and the range of produce, the cutting-edge technology on our catcher vessels at sea and in our plants on shore, responsible exploitation of the sea resource - all are constant concerns of our Producers Organisation, with its one ultimate aim: making fishing move forward.
